I don't know how I came to do Faerie Folk. I think they came to
me. I believe my personality reflects some whimsy and humour and I try
to infuse that into my work.
Although all of my dolls are generally fantasy figures, such as
faeries, elves and brownies etc., I want you to believe they could
really exist. If I can bring out a giggle or grin or even just a hint
of a smile then I know a piece has been successful. I am unsure as to
whether this work is a calling or a way of life; however upon
reflection I realize that everything else I have done has brought me
to this profession/ lifestyle/ creative expression/ compulsion/
obsession.
I am
always searching for ways to express the whimsical nature of my
imagination. I may be inspired by a classic faerie tale or by a
colorful piece of fabric. Even after beginning a piece, although I may
have an idea of what I want to create, sometimes the piece has a mind
of its own. That in itself is very exciting.
